Re: My Addiction to Cutting My Nails - Post Your Ticks
It's not just habit; it feels satisfying too. The pleasure-feedback to the brain creates a vicious cycle, at least it does for me. |

Re: My Addiction to Cutting My Nails - Post Your Ticks
I also have trichotillomania. It started for me at around 13 when I first noticed some white hairs. It progressed to pulling out any hair that seemed too curly or thick to me. I've managed to stop pulling out the hair on my scalp for fear of going bald, but I've moved on to obsessively plucking my eyebrows, any other facial hair, and pubic hair. Oh well, at least my husband likes it. |

Re: My Addiction to Cutting My Nails - Post Your Ticks
You know, I used to self-harm for personal reasons and now I've managed to stop, I still need that distraction so you know what I do that gives me that kick? Pull off the nail on my left big toe. Only 1/4 of it is left as it was partially removed due to recurring infection. It's like pulling a tooth out. I then get the buzz, it heals and the cycle repeats. So addiction, OCD, etc for whatever reason can be very understandable when you get to the grass roots. I never ever cut my cuticles or push them back as I don't like the sensation |

Re: My Addiction to Cutting My Nails - Post Your Ticks
I bite the skin around my nails (but try to stop before any blood is drawn), pick my hangnails, still pick my nose, am obsessed with plucking even the tiniest little hairs that show up on my chinny-chin-chin (most of the time they're almost too small to really use tweezers on and barely poking out, but the fact that I know they're there just makes me pick and pick and pick!)

Re: My Addiction to Cutting My Nails - Post Your Ticks
I pick at these little "postules" on my arms. They're tiny bumps that are sometimes red and you can pop them like pimples, and they excrete almost the same fluid as pimples, but it's thicker and whiter, and if I don't do it, they get infected and sore. I don't do it as an obsession though, I often times am reluctant to do it.
