Re: MRSA Infection

They had me on morohine most of the time, then switched me to Dilaudid.
Ahhh...Dilaudid-the good stuff

Seriously, though you are lucky you saved your foot. When my middle son was really young around 3 or 4 he had this pimple looking thing on his leg. My husband is one of those people who like to pop them so he tried. It got worse overnight. I took him to the doctor and they lanced and tested and it was MRSA. They gave him Septra which he had an allergic reaction to. The best stuff they gave was Mupirocin topical antibiotic ointment. I still get some every year because it heals stuff so quickly. And they said once you have it you are at a greater risk for getting it again.

I had to keep him separated from my other kids and bleach the tub and toys every time he took a bath. We had to run them through the dishwasher and bleach initially. That stuff is really nasty. Glad you are okay

Re: MRSA Infection

I had my scare with possible MRSA. Ended up being just a well-off plain Staph infection.. Had a post-op infection on my elbow.
They did the surgery (Carpal tunnel and Cubital tunnel surgery, Cubital is elbow/Ulnar nerve), Doctor had me wait a week to remove the surgical bandage. (In his office. not at home.)
When they removed it, my elbow just poured clear fluid. left Dr's office, went to eat. went home, took a nap..woke up with fever/body cramps.. called doc, said to see him following day. arm was swollen, red. and he said he wish he had sent me the night before when I called him. They removed the fresh bandages, seen my arm swollen red, feared MRSA with compartment syndrome in my arm as well. spent a week in the hospital.
They pulled the sutures and left it heal from inside out, had to clean and pack it myself daily for 3 weeks.

April 2012 at the orthopedic surgeon office right after the bandage was removed.

Two days later at the hospital.

And.. just now.

Re: MRSA Infection

I've never forgotten the smell of a wound infected with this bug. It smells like cheese and onion to me

Re: MRSA Infection

Staph is one nasty bug to catch though.. Methicillin resistant or not.
And when it is resistant? It can become just downright horrifying.
Good to hear you kept your foot and you're doing ok.
Can catch Staph off of a shopping cart. A baseball, anything really.
My doctor was going off the day I was admitted about MRSA.
He knew/knows how easily it is to come into contact with Staph.
Standing there, just started rattling off all these locations you can come into contact with it. Which is just about anywhere.
(Most notorious places to specifically catch MRSA, gyms, hospitals!, nursing homes, anywhere there is equipment multiple people use.)

Keep hands clean, wounds cleaned, covered and dry. best bets to prevent it.
