Mr Parrotman - The Man Who Wants to Look Like a Parrot

Plastic surgery addict, 58, who has 110 tattoos, 50 piercings and a split tongue to look like his favourite bird has now officially changed his name to Mr Parrotman

A man who has had his ears removed and tongue split in a bid to look like his pet parrots has gone one step further and changed his name - to Mr Parrotman.

Ted Richards, 58, is so obsessed by parrots Ellie, Teaka, Timneh, Jake and Bubi that he has his face and eyes tattooed with feathers.

The animal-lover - who has 110 tattoos and 50 piercings - has also had both his ears removed and tongue split so he resembles the coloured bird.

The retired shoe factory worker got his first tattoo in 1976 and has since built up a collection covering almost his entire body.

But the body art and plastic surgery was not enough as Mr Richards, from Hartcliffe, Bristol, has now changed his name by Deed Poll - to Ted Parrotman.

He said: 'It's something I've thought about doing for a long time.

'Because I walk around the streets with my parrots so much, around here I've been known as Ted Parrotman for years.

'So it only seems natural for me to change my name.

'I've not had any contact with my mother and father for years because we didn't really get on - I don't even know if they're dead or alive, and I also don't talk to my siblings anymore - so I felt no connection to having a family name.

'For me, my real family are my parrots - so it only seems fitting for my surname to reflect this.'

He said he has a huge following on Facebook and has been offered the chance to appear on Jeremy Kyle's television talk show.

But after having his ears removed last year, he had to return to his plastic surgeon to have synthetic lumps inserted under the skin on the side of his head - because he had overlooked the fact that he wore glasses.

'This is just what I love doing, modifying my appearance,' he said.

'But when I look in the mirror I do think 'who am I?'

'And I also think why are so many people interested in what I'm doing? I'm actually quite ordinary really.'

And compared to his dramatic surgery - which included having his eye balls dyed and horns inserted into his skull - changing his name was easy.

'I was amazed how simple it was to change your name officially,' he says. 'I just went online to the Deed Poll website, and in a couple of clicks it was done.

'Of course then you have to go to the trouble of changing your name on everything - from your bank account to your passport.

'But the hardest thing for me was changing my name on my Facebook account. That took ages to sort out.

'I've done it because I want to look like my parrots as much as possible.'

Re: Mr Parrotman - The Man Who Wants to Look Like a Parrot

As someone who has been owned by 7 parrots for 20 years... I kind of understand his fascination with his birds... they are amazing creatures. Being bonded with these animals, in particular, is a special thing... when you gain their complete trust, it's quite a feeling that I have never been successful in explaining to anyone who's never had a bird in their households. When it happens, it's like nothing else on the planet.

But... this is a bit much.

It's almost the exact opposite of people who dress their dogs in outfits. Dogs aren't supposed to wear clothes and he can never be a parrot.

I don't know... as long as he's not hurting his animals, or anyone else... more power to him I guess. I can understand his motives though, 100%. I could never go to such extremes. I'd rather spend all that money on them. lol

I just want to know how he stops them from preening all those attachments on his face. My birds are attracted to earrings, necklaces... I can't imagine how much his go after those studs and horns on his face.

Re: Mr Parrotman - The Man Who Wants to Look Like a Parrot

There was a guy who had the same kind of fetish about Tigers. He got called “Catfish” and hated it. He eventually committed suicide. He’d done pretty much the same thing Parrotman here did to himself just a different animal. Lol, these winners in society.

Idiots..

Re: Mr Parrotman - The Man Who Wants to Look Like a Parrot

Parrots are interesting pets to keep and highly intelligent. My ex-wife's father had an African gray parrot and when her father died we took the parrot in for a week until we could find an appropriate home for it. It was a brief but intimate look into his life because the parrot would say certain things when we did specific things in the house. For example every time we went to leave the house the parrot would say "you be a good girl now Gracie" and even more strange it spoke in her father's voice. The parrot made farting noises a lot also.

We need to reopen psych hospitals en masse but they're considered "cruel" now.
