Shame they don't put ads out about the damage caused by alcohol.

I agree, Vera! I do like the programs Los Angeles, CA, has had for years and I know Monmouth County, NJ, also does it.

They take young people arrested for DUIs to morgues to see the damage they could cause.

This is the problem with uncensored news in the US. I really think some people don't realize what a dead body really looks like.

It goes for gun deaths as well.

Re: More Great Non-Smoking Ads

Glad I only smoked for a week in my teens then realised it was gross and stopped. Haven't touched one since

Re: More Great Non-Smoking Ads

Totally agree with this..They don't show what full blown alcoholics go through when they don't have a drink for a few hours, let alone a day..Delirium Tremens..seaizures..strokes..

17 years of alcohol/substance abuse..(Done it all but I.V...Somehow wasn't that dumb.)
All in all..in the end..the drug that caught up with me..bit me in the ass and wouldn't let go? Alcohol..

When I finally realized it was time to stop and wanted the help more than ever and accepted the mess I got myself in..Went to jail..sentencing asked for rehab..was told yes. but serve jail sentence first..no biggie..
3 months in jail, then went to rehab for 3 months.
While I was there I came to the realization and understanding that the most addictive drugs hold the same grasp once the physical dependance aspect kicks in.(meth,coke,heroin/opiates,alcohol,etc)

Was told this while there -
"Take 10 Heroin addicts, And take 10 alcoholics..place them in a house with no drugs/booze for a weekend. monday let them out..more than likely all 10 heroin addicts will come out..still sick, but alive..but you'll be lucky to see 7 of the 10 alcoholics alive and walking."

Once you go full blown physically dependent on alcohol.. You drink to stop the psychosis. When your alcohol is abruptly cut off for a short period of time..hours-few hours.(Even going to sleep for a bit..couple of hours..would wake up to the symptoms) you start to experience constant fear/anxiety/panic..feeling of bugs crawling on and under your skin.. you can't think straight, lose proper motor function..shake..shake..and shake..after awhile..you get violently ill..(Around this point is where Delirium Tremens sets in.)vomiting..convulsions..seizures.. Of course you get the hot and cold flashes sweats and the silly simple stuff with this aswell..and then there is also plenty of hallucinations..audible and visual.. ...fun stuff.. make matters worse? You also feel like you have the worst hangover [b]EVER[b] while all of this fun stuff is occuring

And then you have drunk drivers killing people etc..just bad all around..(no DUI's for me..license was suspended before I was old enough to legally drive, spent my money on Stereo equipment and "party favors")

I entered that courthouse that day saying I'm done, done running.. best decision I made that I've know of. 4 years 2 months sober now..and oddly enough? I haven't had one problem with the law since..imagine that?

Oh..and as per the original post topic smoking?
Been 2 years since I quit..smoked for 18 years..

The nicotine lozenge..works..but then it's like..ok..no longer addicted to Cigarettes..but now I'm addicted to these lozenges..Buyin a pack of altoids or other mints now..

Re: More Great Non-Smoking Ads

The Bryan Curtis story is so very sad. He looked so happy with his son. His wife crying made me want to cry too. Glad I don't smoke.
