Miscarriage at 6 Weeks
I've never shared these pictures with ANYONE, but being the loyal DR fan that I am I feel like I should contribute something a little more personal/gory that only members here could appreciate. I had my 3rd miscarriage awhile back and my doctor wanted me to bring the tissues in for testing. This is what I collected. I never did find out exactly what I was looking at (placenta, embryo, or what?) so if anyone here knows just what this is please feel free to enlighten me! The first picture is the u/s at just over 4 weeks with the first and last tests I took laid on top. The second is the pregnancy tests starting at 11dpo (days past ovulation/ FMU stands for first morning urine) and ending at 16dpo.. notice they didn't get much darker. The rest are of the products of conception that I was able to collect. |

Re: Miscarriage at 6 Weeks
Poor thing. I'm no expert, but it looks to me like a little of everything. I don't think at just 6 weeks you would be able to decipher between the embryo or placenta. I'm sorry that you've had one miscarriage much less another one.

Re: Miscarriage at 6 Weeks
Well luckily I have had one successful pregnancy and I was blessed with a gorgeous daughter. She's 7 now, but I wish I knew what is preventing me from having another healthy pregnancy! I was too early to see anything human looking, but I would love more info on what is in the picture!

Re: Miscarriage at 6 Weeks
At 6 weeks there is no real placenta to see yet, its more of a yolk sac - the placenta is not completely developed until week 18. Was there a fetal heart detectable at the first scan? Usually a miscarriage is the result of a 'blighted ovum' and there are no fetal parts that can be distinguished from other tissue. Also if there were a heartbeat at the first scan and you the miscarried at the 6 week mark, bub would have been roughly the size of a grain of rice and probably would have been to small to see individual body parts. I wish you all the best hun xx
