I found information about this case: This patient had a tumor at the craneal base. This was the only way to reach that spot.

Too bad they didn't show the removal of the tumor though. I guess this is used to show other surgeons how to split a human face properly, whether there's a tumor or not.

Anaesthesia is remarkable. I wonder if the patient experienced any kind of "dream/nightmare" during the procedure. So much damage for the mind to just not notice.
