Re: Mental Health Patient Dies In Tragic Way
I worked in psychiatry for a long time. We were trained every six months on how to handle a person who needs restraints. I’m guessing they gave her a “cocktail” and put her in the room to sleep. Then, every fifteen minutes, a trained aide should have visually check on her and ensured her that water was available and that the restraints not cutting off blood. She should never left her room without someone first helping her dress and then making sure she was steady on her feet. (To keep someone in crisis restrained on a bed you use belts and cuffs on both wrists and ankles, plus a set of three around the waist so they can’t slide off the bed). This was totally a complete mess up on the hospitals part. On one ward someone didn’t do their rounds and 45 min later they found a patient dead, having overdosed on water. If she had a been watched she wouldn’t have died. No. Nothing happened or came of it other than a few write-ups. It’s sad. These folks always seem to have shorter lives, just my observation. |

Re: Mental Health Patient Dies In Tragic Way
You’re a fucking idiot. The level of healthcare in America is much worse than this. We have THOUSANDS die from malpractice and negligence every year. This was a very rare occurrence in Australia. If it were the US, it wouldn’t even make the news. So yes, we would greatly benefit from socialized healthcare.
