MENTAL HEALTH - Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
What is BPD Borderline personality disorder is a mental health disorder that impacts the way you think and feel about yourself and others, causing problems functioning in everyday life. It includes self-image issues, difficulty managing emotions and behavior, and a pattern of unstable relationships. It is also a complex, multilayered condition that's as difficult to diagnose as it is to treat. One of its paradoxes involves lying. People with BPD fear abandonment and have trouble maintaining relationships. Nevertheless, they tend to lie, which ruins trust and intimacy, fosters resentment, and harms the very relationships they fear losing. Many family members and friends of those with BPD cite lying as a major problem in their relationships. BPD Symptoms To be properly diagnosed with BPD, you must exhibit 7 out of 9 signs. The signs and symptoms may include:

Re: MENTAL HEALTH - Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
One of my longest, very best friends developed this and ended up stalking and sending me death threats at our college. Was a real son of a bitch watching this girl I'd known since elementary school turn into that in her mid-late 20s.

Re: MENTAL HEALTH - Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
BPD is very much trauma based. What she did is called splitting. Splitting behavior is a defense mechanism that allows people with types of BPD to reframe something in black-and-white terms. It’s called splitting because it involves putting people, places, and things into one of two categories. Splitting can cause people to view something as entirely good or completely bad. While most people with BPD understand that the world is complex, splitting behavior can cause them to shift rapidly between two extremes. For example, someone with BPD may think that another person is amazing one day, only to see them as the worst person in the world the next. This sudden shift generally occurs after a negative interaction — even if the exchange is brief. In one moment, they feel confident in the relationship, then they’ll suddenly view the person as worthless as soon as they make a mistake. A splitting episode can also be a way for people with BPD to push blame on someone else. For example, if they forget to complete a task, they might insist it was stupid or that the instructions they received weren’t clear. At times, people with BPD may openly share these views with others, but splitting can also be an internal behavior. |

Re: MENTAL HEALTH - Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
I was diagnosed with borderline for 6 years ago. While it’s an intimidating diagnosis, it was also a relief to not just be “crazy”. I had my son 4 years ago, I cannot imagine being the mother I am today without support. Therapy and antidepressants have helped me so much. I hope everyone can get the opportunity to get the help I was able to. By no means am I cured but I am a better friend/mother/sister nowadays |

Re: MENTAL HEALTH - Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
Personality disorders are just extreme manifestations of everyday emotions and behaviors that are out of what is considered "normal". The fact they have similar diagnostic criteria across cultures and societies points to their pathology. Because it's all psychiatric and psychological related it's still a work in progress determining the exact criteria for disorders as we learn more about their nuances. |
