Re: Medical Procedure ?
Sometimes when a part of the body suffers extreme trauma (usuall an extremity with relatively poor blood supply) they sew it into a part of your body with good blood supply, helps it heal quicker and less chance of further infection / necrosis etc They often do it if a part of your body has been ripped off....eg a hand, they sew it to the blood vessels in your torso or similar with good blood supply, and once the severed part (and you if you have been in major accident) are stable and healthy they re-attach to where it is supposed to be, then when that has attached and settled down, they cut away from where it was attached to your body and you have your hand back (or whatever part) That might be a bit waffly, but you get the idea. |

Re: Medical Procedure ?
I had the same operation with my finger. It's called a Thermo Flap. Basically when a digit suffers severe trauma which leaves little flesh left, you can stitch it inside another part of the body and it will reproduce the flesh. Pretty damn good if you ask me. |
