I've had occasional deafness in one ear on and off for months. My wife had a dig around in it with her tiny 'ear spoon' and pulled out what looked like a small ball of screwed up greasy black paper. She reckons it was layers of dirt and dried skin, about the size of a currant.

No problems hearing now. :D
