The little girl in the first pic was seen as somewhat as a "god" in India because she was seen as a representation/reincarnation of some Indian god that has multiple limbs (the name escapes me at the moment). I believe she has since had surgery to remove all the extra bits and is learning to walk again.

I saw that show on her also!! When she came back to her village with her family she was an outcast because they had defiled the reincarnated god of Sheeba(I think that was her name)!!!
