They mainly get into the mouths and cheeks of cattle and burrow into the healthy flesh. As they burrow, they eat.....every bit of tissue. They have pretty much been eradicated in the U.S., but some 3rd world countries still have the little buggers.

Source: I WAS a rancher's wife for over a decade. Pretty big ranch here in central Florida. Had over 1200 acres. He was the violent one and we are divorced. My son is now 21 and 1400 miles away at college. The baby is now 16 and I have full custody (FINALLY!!!!).
