Man on Fire in NY Calmly Takes Off His Burning Jacket and Walks Off

This is the bizarre moment a man engulfed in flames was found wandering around the streets of New York.

Shocking footage shows the burning man standing on a sidewalk near parked cars and calmly removing his coat.

Passers-by can be heard asking whether he is OK, but the human fireball does not respond and remains silent throughout the video.

Burning pieces of clothing can be seen on the sidewalk while the man slowly walks up and down.

The video ends with the man apparently preparing to walk across the street.

A man filming the mysterious incident can be heard saying: 'This guy's on fire. What the hell? Hey, are you ok? Are you good?'

The video was shared on Twitter by NYCFireWire with the message: 'ONLY IN NYC! We do not know who recorded this or any details. Warning: Kinda disturbing.'

The identity of the man and the exact location of the incident is not yet known.

A man smoking crack became a human fireball, accidentally setting himself ablaze as he stuffed a lighter in his pocket while walking down a Brooklyn street.

A 30-second video of the bizarre incident shows the unidentified man walking nonchalantly as his clothes burned on Halsey St. near Tompkins Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

The video was recorded Sunday by 18-year-old Ziearre Flowers.

Ziearre’s mother, Aaronda Flowers, said she was with her husband and her son parking their car after church when they all noticed the burning man.

“The man lit himself on fire. I thought it was a tree burning. It was a small fire at first,” she said. “I came to realize it was actually a man on fire.”

Ziearre ran out of the car, videotaping because he wasn’t sure what he was witnessing.

When the burning man comes into view on the video, he is about a half a block away from Ziearre and already fully engulfed in flames. Two other witnesses are standing on the other end of the block.

“This guy’s on fire,” Ziearre says on the recording as he moved closer while flames danced on the victim’s right side, back, and jacket, which he removed to pat down.

The man walked into the street between two parked cars as the video ended.

Cops and firefighters were called but the victim had vanished by the time they arrived, according to DNAinfo.com, which first reported the story.

FDNY fire marshals returned the next day to investigate and learned the man’s identity, officials said.

He had returned home and fallen asleep. After he woke up and his horrified family saw his burns he was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell in stable condition, DNAinfo reported.

FDNY officials told the Daily News he was taken by ambulance to the hospital about 4:20 p.m. Monday.

He told his family that he had set himself on fire when he put a still-burning cigarette lighter in his pocket while smoking crack, DNAinfo reported.

The video, posted on social media by @NYCFireWire, has received more than 1,400 views.

Some criticized the videographer for not helping.

“I would put the phone down and tackle this man to put him out!” another commenter wrote. “Hopefully if others saw me trying they would help!”

Ziearre said he and some other witnesses did try to put out the fire, but the man just walked off. “Some of them took off their coats and tried to pat the guy down,” he said.
