He (like ALL humans in our borders) would never, ever, ever be denied care at any American hospital. It's a fucking myth that money is at all ever a factor in emergency care in the US. We care, THEN worry about the payment (Hippocratic OATH). Our hospitals write off BILLIONS per year on the poor coming into emergency rooms for everything from common colds to gangrene, and NONE are EVER turned away. In fact, mobile medical units go out in all major cities with showers, immunizations, etc, etc for the homeless, but ya gotta get your ass UP and IN THERE. Oh no! That's TOO HARD! Society should pay two full-time people to come CARRY ME EVERYWHERE!

I hate to break it to you, but America ALREADY has universal health CARE. The question being raised here is how to PAY for it. America is awash in prosperity compared to the rest of the world, even in this recession, which has caused incredible advances and established a minimum level of care that is light-years above the rest of the world...if not, why does the world (to include its leaders, like Castro and others ESPECIALLY Canadians and Mexican and South Americans) FLOCK here to get it with cash or even for free just by showing up at the door?

Permenantly establishing a socialist beaurocacy here will not improve anything; it will have to cut the quality down to an affordable price to the general public in order to spread it out evenly, eliminating charitable hospitals, foundations, and other for- and non-profit things to make everyone equal and affordable to the average taxpayer, who will be then forced to pay for it...then we'd be just like everyone else. Where will they flock to then?

There will ALWAYS be poor and stupid and helpless people. Ours in America have nice apartments, big-screen TV's, cars, college, food...everything they want! If you are too lazy to get yourself to the food or shelter, shame on you! We can't live your life FOR you! The only alternative is to hospitalize (asylum) you or imprison (debtor's prison) you, but all that has been outlawed; you cannot hold anyone against their will, unless they commit a crime, and even that's temporary and the jails are full to bursting. So.......now you're helpless and homeless by choice. TELL ME, OH WISE CANADIAN: WHAT IS AMERICA SUPPOSED TO DO FOR HIM NOW???

Universal health care as you desribe it hasn't fixed the problem of humans making bad descisions for themselves in CANADA yet, has it?

By the way, this person was probably an addict, living in the shadows by CHOICE on the Hobo Highway, or under a bridge and got trenchfoot.

Universal Health Tax can't fix stupid, my friend. And THAT'S the debate.
