Re: Maggot Infested Diabetic Feet
Fuckin' hell. The things we take for granted, like running hot water, and soap, and being educated about the importance of hygiene! Such common things to us, in Europe and the US. My point is: this could have easily been prevented if he had access to such simple things. |

Re: Maggot Infested Diabetic Feet
He is from my country, Chile, and he is clearly a homeless man with mental issues. In fact I might have seen him near my bus station 'cause he is being treated near "Posta 3" |

Re: Maggot Infested Diabetic Feet
That is just heartbreaking. That poor poor human being. It makes you realize how very lucky we are to live in the USA. My dad is a diabetic and I cannot imagine this being my dad!!!! The woman/nurse whoever seemed to be quite overwhelmed by this tragic condition. This just rips my heart to shreds.

Re: Maggot Infested Diabetic Feet
I'm diabetic and have variable levels of neuropathic numbness and pain in my feet. As a result, it hurts to scrub my feet with a horse-hair backbrush the way I used to. So that means I wash them a bit less thoroughly than I used to. My lower legs and feet have also gotten a bit dry and scaly as a result of my diabetes, but grapeseed oil helps keep that in check. However that may be, I compensate by soaking my feet rather than scrubbing them hell out of them. My feet and toenails will never be like they were pre-diabetes, but at least they are as hygenic as I can keep them. I see/hear diabetic horror stories like this and it motivates me to keep my blood sugar in check -and- take better care of my feet. |

Re: Maggot Infested Diabetic Feet
The wounds don't heal in just a few weeks time, sometimes they never heal and amputations are necessary. Diabetics have bad circulation and this prevents the feet from healing well, if at all, once the are injured. Still though, I can just imagine the stench of this poor person's feet!
