Yeah, they are also a big problem in Santa Cruz County. We are taking over their habitat and that's not helping with them coming close to urban environment either. They are gorgeous animals though.

I remember this attack...it was in the hills of Orange County (very popular hiking/biking area). The lady in the photos was riding with another female when they were attacked by two cougars. One cougar jumped down on one of the bike riders and the other one attacked when one of the cyclists fell. One of the women was killed outright by the cougars and the women in the photos was the injured surviver. Other bikers threw rocks at the two cougars and finally drove them off. The attack happened in broad daylight in a fairly well traveled/used area. I think California Deputy Game Wardens shot one of the two cougars and matched DNA with the survivor's wounds. Although we have quite a few cougars in Southern California, this is an extremely rare incident...like getting attacked by a great white shark in your bathtub.
