Leprosy is a bacteria, but, the exact method of transmission is unclear. Seems you must have prolonged exposure to infected people, and in close contact, and probably nasal droplet to respiratory tract. (but they still aren't sure) ESTIMATED 95% OF PEOPLE ON EARTH ARE IMMUNE TO LEPROSY! Some areas, like southern india about 56 people out of a thousand in leperous areas can contract it. Which is very high. India still has 1,000 Leper colonies. There are MANY different types of leprosy. Leprosy IS CURABLE. 15 million people have been CURED of leprosy in the past 20 years alone !!! Due to shitty overuse of meds that cure, many meds have stopped working though. |

Seems to me that those feet would hurt more. There are more nerve endings in the soles than in the hands, which is why battering the soles is so popular with police the world over. I couldn't imagine having to walk around with those ulcers.  Leprosy was common in Spain up to the mid 20th C. Still is in Morocco and further south. |

I think once the disease has gotten to that stage a lot of the nerve endings are badly damaged so they might not actually be in any pain. Still looks gnarly as fuck though.
