Re: Kid with a Horrible Jaw Condition
I watched my grandfather's jaw rot to dust from mouth cancer. I watched his hip go necrotic as it spread. And I watched him refuse all offers of any form of "death with dignity", watched him use every ounce of strength he had just to write down "There is no such thing", and "It's not my decision to make". He was religious man and believed God would call him home when He was damn well ready for him, not a second before. Not too long before the end he wrote that he would have never changed his decision, he wanted them to remember him as he was, and that he had no regrets, as much pain as he was in. He wanted to be with my grandmother, my mother, and my aunt on this mortal coil for as long as he could, and THAT is far more courageous than whatever a Doctor can do to "make the last moments more comfortable." I'm not without compassion, but there will always be a part of me that wonders if parents wouldn't also feel a sense of relief after having such a heavy "burden" as a child lifted from them in cases such as this. Everyone go ahead and dislike and mock and point and laugh, I don't give a rat's flea-infested arse. I was named after my Grandfather, and whatever life throws at me, I sure as hell intend to honor his memory when my time comes. |

Morphine and plenty of it, if that was an animal we would get done for animal cruelty.

Re: Kid with a Horrible Jaw Condition
I think I understand your point of view, can respect it and your Grandfather's experience. One thing to remember is that your Grandfather was accorded the Grace to 'walk through the Valley of The Shadow of Death' in the manner that he did. As a religious man, your Grandfather would have said the same. It does sometimes happen this way although it is pretty rare. No matter what anyone "intends", without the Grace to see you through, your intentions count for nothing. |
