They're still not 100% sure what the poor guy's condition was. The most currently accepted theory is that Merrick had Proteus Syndrome, or Proteus with severe neurofibromatosis.

I cannot imagine, but, he was probably in constant pain. I don't know if one would get used to not lying down. The way his body was twisted, he had to be in pain. And dealing with all the ignorant people, too!  |
