Intracranial Hypertension
I was diagnosed with intracranial hypertension this May. It is a lot like having a brain tumor, but without any actual mass. Basically, my body makes too much cerebral/spinal fluid and it builds up in the ventricles, fluid filled spaces, in my brain. This fluid pressed on my optic nerves to the point of blindness in my left eye and 80% vision loss in my right eye. So, I had an optic nerve sheath fenestration on May 21st, and when that didn't resolve the problem I had a bilateral shunt inserted into my brain which drains the fluid into my abdomen. The videos are NOT of me, but show the procedure I had. The brain surgery in the video is not exactly what I had, I had my head split from my left temple to the base of my skull and behind my right ear. The pictures are of me. |

Re: Intracranial Hypertension
Can't see it very well in the pics, but there is a small gap in the wound, and it picks up again behind my ear. There were 55 staples in my head. Another 13 in my abdomen from placing the catheter.

Re: Intracranial Hypertension
Thank you for sharing this with us. You have been through a lot and I hope that the shunt resolves the problem, at least enough for you to have a better quality of life. Mikex
