~ The pussy wuss guy that was being tossed into the pit was so afraid, that he had to cheat, so he made the ones holding him fall in with him.
~ It's a ritual meant to scare people of the fires of hell, so that they'll be good. In this case the one guy must have so many guilty evil mortal sins that he wanted to take the ones holding him, down with him, to help pay for them.
