Re: Intensely Nasty....Yet Its Preventable.
People always talk about the lousy jobs nursing homes do, but I think most of them try to be diligent, but the poor people who are cared for only by their families lterally begin dying and decaying a little at a time, and they smell like death.

Re: Intensely Nasty....Yet Its Preventable.
let me tell you all my opinion from the perspective of a nurse. if someone is in a nursing home or other longterm care facility, the ONLY REASON SOMEONE GETS A PRESSURE SORE OR DECUBITUS ULCER IS PISS-POOR NURSING CARE!!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes they come from home with an ulcer already in progress. The two main contributing factors besides pressure on the body tissues over a bony prominence, is lack of hydration (poor fluid intake) and poor nutrition. If left in one position for too long the pressure on the skin causes the circulation to become decreased and the skin begins to break down. PS- Those of you with loved ones in a nursing home or other facility should be aware if your loved one is bedridden, the staff should be turning and repositioning them from side to side every two hours. That's something you can do yourselves at home if necessary. Finally, if your family member is bedridden or incontinent of urine, you must also make sure they are kept scrupulously clean, as urine and feces will cause the skin to break down! Not to mention becoming infected!!!!! |
