Re: Ingrown Toenail

"How does one let it go that far" is the quintessential question on everyone's mind for pretty much every medical post on this forum!
Exactly..

But in all honesty? Some things don't affect people the same, pain wise or in disgust..
And they see it every day as it is attached to them so it's like -
"Ahh.. my third head is just a little bigger/worse than yesterday.. I'm fine, not that bad."..
Add in fear of doctors, cost of healthcare and many, fear of someone saying something offensive about their condition, MANY other factors.. Physical and Mental.

Re: Ingrown Toenail

Ouch! I used to have ingrown toenails but I got them sorted out, thankfully they got nowhere near that bad.

I don't know...mine were no where near as bad as either the photo or the video, and it hurt like hell to even walk. I can't imagine how your toes were that bad.

Re: Ingrown Toenail

I had this after I dropped a big log of wood on my toe, the nail grew back ingrown, and I had so many toenail removals over 6 years that were supposed to fix it. I had to purchase shoes that were 2 sizes bigger than what i should be wearing because otherwise the toe would get all inflamed and yukky from the pressure of the shoes. Then I finally saw a podiatrist and he cut about 1/4 inch off the side and burnt the nailbed with acid so it wouldnt grow back, wish I knew about that option in the first place instead of expecting this stupid doctor to do it correctly!

Re: Ingrown Toenail

Ive had three different types of procedure on one big.

1. Doc just pulled it off with local- grew
2. Involved slicing down both sides of the nail and skin to expose the nail bed. Then acid was applied to burn and kill the nail bed. Had this on both big ties. 1 grew back
3. More slicing and dicing but this time with stitches

Of course I had years of my own home made 'procedures' involving razor blades, lots of tissues...

Re: Ingrown Toenail

I cut mine back weekly otherwise this happens. I have big toes that curve upwards, making it even worse, but if I cut back my nails on the sides every week I'm fine. Works so far. Can't imagine ever letting it get THAT bad.
