Infant Girl With Fetus in Fetu in Saudi Arabia
An infant girl in Saudi Arabia was diagnosed with fetus in fetu, a malformed twin enclosed inside her abdomen. CT images showed a separate vertebral column within the abdominal mass. The condition is not a pregnancy. Fetus in fetu is a rare developmental anomaly usually diagnosed in infancy, occurring in about one in 500,000 births. Surgical removal of the mass and its covering membrane is the treatment of choice, with follow-up recommended because recurrence and malignant change have been reported. |
