Re: Impaled by a Large Piece of Wood Through the Chest and Arm
Sometimes a VERY luck fuck will have an injury that looks so catastrophic that you would guess that they were worm food. However, major structures have a tendency to get pushed to the side by an intrusive object. This board probably slid in above the heart and aorta and bypassed the trachea/esophagus and wiggled by the arteries. There is a cast reproduction of a skull in the Harvard School of Medicine that has a metal rod slap ass through it from under the chin up through the vault. This man was involved in a blasting injury (TNT) over 100 years ago. He never lost consciousness and lived past this injury. Crazy shit our bodies will endure.......

Re: Impaled by a Large Piece of Wood Through the Chest and Arm
I'm guessing you're talking about Phineas Gage. Watched a documentary about him, a couple of years back. Was quite interesting, and if anyone is interested, there's a lot of vids on Youtube about him. Overall, he was extremely lucky, even more that he didn't die of infection considering the time, but did end up with a personality change/ie. Brain damage. |
