Also, water doesn’t neutralize acid. He should be using baking soda or milk or any other base.

I used to work at a photo studio. We had to use acid for some of the chemicals we used in some of the chemicals we used to run the film through. We would add acid to water but we had to pour it in slowly because as you poured the acid in, the water got really hot and if you poured it too fast, you could get it really hot so when he said the water is really hot, it may have been the acids reaction to the contact with the water.
