Re: I (Sharon) Have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

I have this issue as well...

and as a Software & Info Systems student (and internet addict) -
I can tell you that computer use is no help in this situation. It causes even more compression. I get these terrible pains in my shoulder, but I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia as well... It's a bitch.

Hope you can find some relief without adding to the grief. <3

Re: I (Sharon) Have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

If your condition is caused and/or aggravated by compression as a result of 'slumping' in front of a computer screen for many hours...

You may wish to consider compensatory/balancing exercises to open the compressed areas up.

This is very very good: http://www.intu-flow.com/

Also, specific Yoga poses can help.

Modern life, inactivity and prolonged unnatural positions can cause a whole host of preventable body problems.

Proper exercise can prevent, reverse or even cure many of these problems.

I had some really bad back problems cause by a lifetime of poor posture and lack of sufficiently developed musculature. Most of this condition has now been reversed and I think what remains will likely be reversed also.

In my case, my condition was completely preventable. I just didn't realize it at the time it was happening.

I hope there is another option. That sounds like a very deep surgery from looking at the diagram. Thanks for sharing. umm, can you get pics of the surgery? Not to be rude but it would be awesome to see. But scary to be you.

Re: I (Sharon) Have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Get a second opinion! I've had some, but not all, of the same symptoms off and on for the last several months: neck/upper back/shoulder pain, tingling/slight numbness here & there down my left arm & into my fingers, limited range of motion when turning my head or looking up/down, even pain in my chest. The chiropractor I was seeing immed said I had stenosis at my C7 & to see a neuruologist. After seeing the neuro, he wanted to do a spinal tap/myelogram and have more tests done on my arm and hand, and said I would have to have surgery. I went to go see another chiropractor who is also a kinesologist & he said they were both wrong, told me why. It's nerve problems but it's caused by inflamed/aggravated muscles & some old scar tissue. The pain went away after a few months then all of a sudden came back. After about 8th visit, the pain started going away& I'm doing better. He thinks he can get me back to about 95%.

Regardless, good luck to you and I hope that you get a full recovery.
