The uterus is actually an amazing muscle! See it in pic 5, small,.... just think it expands, in a woman as a baby grows, to sit just underneath her rib cage when she is full term. It then contracts so forcefully it can 'push' a baby out the body. It then eventually after about 6 weeks contracts back to its original size as seen in pic 5. It also can accomodate the placenta (which is not an organ women are born with, it grows with the baby from special cells) its something that simply speaking acts as the baby's "lifeline" delivering oxygenated blood, nutrients, and removes the baby's waste. And when the baby is born the placenta which in its self is an amazing sysytem is 'expelled' from the uterus. It may not look like much to look at but we all came from one! |
