Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome: Progeria Baby, Progeria Life Expectancy
Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome is a rare genetic condition that causes signs resembling rapid aging during childhood. Children generally appear normal at birth, then develop slow growth, hair loss, aged-looking skin, joint problems and loss of body fat. Intelligence is unaffected. The condition affects about 1 in 4 million newborns worldwide and was first described in 1886. An LMNA mutation produces an abnormal protein called progerin, which destabilizes the cell nucleus. Almost all cases result from a new mutation. Early atherosclerosis can lead to death from heart attack or stroke; mean survival was 14.6 years in the largest untreated cohort. Lonafarnib, sold as Zokinvy, first received US approval in November 2020 to reduce the risk of death in people with the condition. · · · · · ·

I think he's cute too. That scene where he's in that forbidden pool and Faramir is being a jackass.....I just loved Smeagol's little killing fish song. More on topic. Progeria. |
