To put to rest a common misconception, they don't always put down the bull. If the bull is wounded mortally, then of course they're gonna put it down. If the bull kills the Matador and is unharmed or receives treatable injury, the bull becomes a legend and fights another day. As another member put it earlier, these bulls are treated like royalty throughout their existence - given the best food, and kindest of treatment and some of the best horn care in the world. Ok, so that's a bit far-fetch'd, but they really are treated as if they were a part of a royal family. Prized bulls like the one above are meant to destroy the matador, just as the matador is meant to destroy the bull. Dual to the death, the closest thing you can get to a modern day gladiatorial game. |
