2 months later where they treated his wounds and gave him 3 diet meals a day he feels much better.

Put yourself in his shoes. You're living outside exposed to the elements, don't know where you'll find your next meal and/or hit, and to top it off the cancerous growth that's slowly cutting off your airway and about to burst through your cheek is ignored by the nurse who merely picks out maggots from your decomposing shoulder hole.
