Re: Hidradenitis Suppurativa
I know its not contageous. I have not seen any on my children as of yet. But I really didn't see any on me till I was about 18, 19 years old. And my oldest is only 10. So only time will tell. No one else in my family has this but me. Witch kinda sucks. Cuz at least then I would have an idea of where it could have come from. It sucks living with it, but I have learned to deal with it.

Re: Hidradenitis Suppurativa
I found a little more info: Hidradenitis Suppurativa Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is a chronic disease of a type of sweat gland. It can occur in one or multiple areas of your body. HS usually develops in your armpits, groin and anal area. It causes long-term skin inflammation and can be painful. Symptoms include Blackheads and red, tender bumps, called abscesses. The abscesses get bigger, break open and leak pus. Tunnels that form under the skin between abscesses Scarring No one knows what causes HS. It is more common in women, African-Americans and people who have had acne. It usually starts after the teenage years. Treatments include antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medicines and sometimes surgery. Losing weight and wearing loose clothing can help, too. I wonder if they would try using surgical procedures to reduce the sweat glands, depending what body parts are affected. Here is a link with a list of 4 meds: http://treathidradenitissuppurativa.com/ |

Re: Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Suffer from this, mainly under the arms and behind my ears I've been seeing a dermatologist for over 2 years now and I'm waiting to hear back about surgery. Not much they can do about it really...they've tried antibiotics, lotions, scrubs and even the medication dapsone which is used for leprosy. I lost the three stone I put on whilst I was pregnant, I've done everything they threw at me and it still came back. All these treatments seemed to piss it off even more. The only thing left is to just cut out all the sweat glands, do some grafting and hope it doesn't come back. It's not contagious but it doesn't look very nice and can pop up in some really strange places, well, on me it does anyway. I had one last month on my elbow |
