Herpes Simplex Infections: Eczema Herpeticum, Cold Sores and Genital Herpes
Herpes simplex infections are caused by herpes simplex virus, HSV-1 or HSV-2. Forms include cold sores, genital herpes, herpetic whitlow affecting the fingers, and eczema herpeticum. Infection in newborns is called neonatal herpes. About 85% of neonatal infections are acquired during delivery, 5% in the uterus and 10% after birth. Transmission risk is much higher when the mother has a primary infection. About 45% of neonatal cases involve the skin, eyes and mouth, 30% involve the central nervous system, and 25% are disseminated, affecting multiple organs. Untreated disseminated disease has an 85% mortality rate. Early treatment with acyclovir lowers mortality. Either virus type can cause neonatal herpes, but HSV-2 has a poorer prognosis. |

And why exactly, would someone sleep with someone that had big ol' bubbly blisters on their shit?! I mean, really....use your head people. That's so sad for the kids.

Herpes is contagious even when people don't have active sores. So somebody could LOOK perfectly fine and still be sharing viruses with you... so the lack of herpes sores does NOT mean your potential partner doesn't have herpes!
