A calf has been fitted with a pair of prosthetic hind legs after losing his to frostbite. Hero the cow was rescued and taken from Virginia to Texas A&M University for pioneering surgery which saw him fitted with the new limbs. Kitty Martin, the owner of a Texas animal shelter, is now hoping that Hero will be back out on the range as soon as he gets a little less wobbly on his artificial hooves. |

Over-engineered the feet as usual; the simplest and always most effective prosthetic for animals is a spring-steel U-plate that acts both as shock absorber and foot stabiliser. Has been done on dogs, cats, and horses for a while now.

First thought I had as well, Is this calf's future to be USDA choice beef? If that were the case? Could have just made him into a veal. |
