Heartworm usually is fatal, when the number of heartworms gets too big for the heart to hold the worms. The treatment is virtually impossible, requiring an open heart surgery, with the pet hooked up to a heart-lung machine, usually done in a veterinary school. We're talking about tens of thousands of dollars.  |
