Hand Crushed and Degloved in Work Accident
2019 - Jigani, India. A 19-year-old boy presented to the ER with a worksite injury to his left hand. His hand got crushed while working on a machine. There was a degloving injury to the left-hand palm, crush injury to the left middle finger at dip joint level, crush injury to the left ring finger at dip joint level, crush injury to the left little finger at dip joint level, neurovascular injury. The procedure by plastic and reconstructive surgeon included surgical debridement of the left hand, abdominal pocket flap elevated in subcutaneous plane, hand buried in the abdominal flap, and inset given to the proximal portion of the forearm. The patient's follow-up included flap division and insetting, the volar side was skin grafted. The patient gained some function after the flap division and insetting. - This post is for educational purposes only and is nonprofit. Can anybody explain what is going on in pictures 9 and 10? They seem to show that the doctors placed the wounded hand inside the mans abdomen and sewed it there? Thinking harder about it I guess they put his hand there to do a skin graft? What a strange site regardless. |
