That and food bits and bacterial fossils (!) are what produce calculus, the hard crumbly "plaque" on teeth. (There's calcium in saliva.) Real plaque is an invisible fine bacterial/food coating brushing removes. Tonsiliths/tonsil stones are calculi trapped in the pockets of the tonsils. Knowledge is power! |

When I have an itchy throat and force air into the back of it with my tongue, I occasionally cough up one. It's usually just one, and the size of a pin head, but I don't get them often. Maybe twice a year. Three times at best.
