Re: 'Great White' Cataract Surgery

Oooooh GOD....I'm gonna have to go thru this pretty soon. A terrifying prospect to say the least but a necessary one as I've lost about 80% of my vision in the last two years, especially in my right eye. Worst part of this shit is that I'm a nature photographer by trade and I'm at the stage where I can't take pictures in direct sunlight thanks to the glare. Anything set against a white or light coloured backround and my entire field of vision washes out with all detail blending in. All I see is light and dark...not fun, boy. I've almost gotten hit by cars three times in the last month cos I can't see the fucking things comng..hell, even typing this message is difficult as the white of the screen is washing out so badly I have to increase the font size in order to finish. The idea of someone hacking away at my eye is and always has been horrifying to me, but the idea of not being able to see is even worse. GOD how I hate this....
I sincerely wish you the best, herekittykitty!

You had a few close calls so it is probably for the better in your case. Most motorists here aim for pedestrians!

If you remember, please keep us posted as to how it goes for you.

I know cataracts can pretty much blind you, so it may be a better choice for you.

Re: 'Great White' Cataract Surgery

I had cataracts removed in both eyes when I was 52. I then had lasik surgery at the same time.

My mother is 79, had both eyes done in May of this year.

Herekitty, you have no idea how much better you will see.

The surgery is one tiny incision.
My mother is 79 and refuses to admit she should have it.

STUBBORN! Won't use a cane or walker either!

I had issues with my legs a few years ago and fell a few times. I got up. Things happen. I fractured my foot in one and used a cane.

I am glad all went well for you, Matti!

Re: 'Great White' Cataract Surgery

After my mother had her surgery a couple of years ago, she was as right as rain. In fact, I don't think she's used her reading glasses since the surgery.

Now I'm not saying that I need cataract surgery (45 years old), but if I did, my main concern would be that I feel everything going on, and I'd feel helpless like Travis did in the movie Fire In The Sky, when he was on that alien examining table with all the medical instruments surrounding him.

Re: 'Great White' Cataract Surgery

Eye thingys always make me cringe.

That's the glaucoma test, XxMutilatedxX. That doesn't bother me.

It's a natural reflex to blink. It is why some people have trouble with contact lenses initially.

I touched my eyes a couple of times accidentally and they're gooey.

My eyes actually improved since my diabetes diagnosis! I was shocked! I am 57 now. Shhhhhh...

I will indeed. One of the main things I'm morbidly curious about is what I'll be seeing throughout the operation...obviously I'll be wide awake during the procedure so it stands to reason that I'll be able to see that stupid needle, hook or whatever the fuck it's called poking around inside my eye n' sloshing things about and that light shining right down onto my retina...ICK!!!That's gonna be one of the most horrific things about this shit..I'll be able to see everything that's going on n' have that rolling around my cranium til I die...ICK yet again.
