Girl Has Tip of Finger Amputated After Using False Nail Glue

Sarah Greenaway, 17, had to be taken to hospital when she contracted a serious infection after using the DIY cosmetic glue from Boots. ‘It was very frightening – I was crying in pain, it was so scary,’ said the teenager from Pontypool, South Wales. The tip of Miss Greenaway’s finger was amputated by doctors in order to save the rest of her hand. She added: ‘Doctors didn’t know then if they’d saved my finger. They said it might still have to be amputated.’ The teenager suffered a further ordeal when she caught the MRSA bacterial infection while in Newport’s Royal Gwent Hospital. She is now considering taking legal action against the manufacturers of Broadway Jet Dry Nail Glue. She said: ‘I cannot understand how my finger became so infected. It may have been a bad batch of glue and we are thinking about taking legal action.’  · |

She probably had a cut or something before applying the glue which caused irritation and infection. Stop biting your nails and paint your own. |

Exactly. I've seen girls who have bit their nails down to the skin, then freak out when they have nothing to attach fake ones too. On their own head be it.

I wish the article had more information - Maybe if the infection started at the nail then I would believe it was the glue's fault. It kind of sounds like the glue had nothing to do with the initial infection that made her go to the hospital for treatment, but the MSRA that she got in the hospital. |
