I had a friend who got a horrible abscess on her back from where a bra strap rubbed a small spot she had and it was really painful so she went to hospital to have it drained but because of some meds she was on for her mental health problems, they couldn't give her any pain relief. When the doctor asked her if she was okay with pain, she showed him her arms (she's been a cutter for years) and the abscess was drained with no pain relief in about 10 minutes.
