Girl, 4, Has Miracle Escape After Being Impaled in Face by Screwdriver

A four-year-old girl had a lucky escape when she was left with a SCREWDRIVER impaled in her face in a freak accident.

Jiali Gang was playing with the tool at her grandmother’s house when she tripped and fell, landing face first on the metal spike.

The screwdriver lodged in the youngster’s left nostril and penetrated to the bottom of her left eye socket, narrowly missing her brain by just millimetres.

The little girl was taken to the local hospital, in Tianshui, in China’s Gansu province, but was transferred twice as staff were ill-equipped to deal with the injury.

Jilai was eventually taken to Xijing Hospital, four hours away in the city of Xi’an, where x-ray and CAT scans showed the horrific extent of her injury.

The shocking images show how the screwdriver speared her face, lodging millimetres from the base of her skull and her brain.

Chief surgeon Yu Qin said: "It's only 2-3mm from the bottom of the skull.

“It's very dangerous.”
