Funeral Pyre Cremation
A funeral pyre is a method of cremation that uses piles of wood as a structure. To better understand what a funeral pyre is, it is important to understand its history and legality. Funeral pyres were thought to start being used around 800 BC by the ancient Greeks. Funeral pyres have continued to be used throughout history across the world, with some cultures continuing to use them today. It's sometimes just called a pyre, is a wooden structure used for outdoor cremation. The pyre may form part of a funeral rite that is used to help individuals begin to process the loss of a loved one. The ashes can be buried, scattered or placed in an urn after the pyre ritual. This will depend on the cultural and religious beliefs or wishes of the deceased's family. In the United States, it can be difficult to legally find a place to have a funeral pyre. Currently, there is only one location in Crestone, Colorado where this outdoor cremation ceremony is legal. In Crestone's end-of-life project, the funeral pyre includes a wooden stretcher, half a wooden cord and a shroud for the deceased individual. All over the world, funeral pyres have been used throughout history. • During the Bronze Age, funeral pyres were used in modern Dublin as part of burial practices. • During ancient times in Denmark, funeral pyres were a status symbol, with huge funeral pyres often accompanied by flint fireworks, gifts and uniquely scented foliage used inside the pyre to stimulate all of the onlookers' senses. • Viking or Norse funerals used pyres in order to create large amounts of smoke, as they believed this would help them in the afterlife. • Some Buddhists and Hindus still use funeral pyres as part of death rituals today. Legality of the funeral pyre The legality of the funeral pyre is a complex topic, as culture and religious beliefs often come into play when it comes to funeral rites and rites. Some countries have faced public pressure to legalize and expand this practice to include more cultural and religious beliefs. |

I see that instead of throwing a handful of dirt to help with the burial, they throw a stick each to help with the fire. I remember when covid hit & they basically ran out of wood to burn the victims before throwing their bodies in the Ganges River as it's their culture to do so & created all kinds of religiose dilemmas for them as no Pyer, no accention to the afterlife. |
