Looks like what Jack London saw when he went to live with the people of Whitechapel,London -in order to see first hand how these animal people lived. They were too poor to even be called "poverty-stricken" and the big bank a few blocks down was not giving them any money. These people lived all their lives in what Jack London could not take it more than a few days: living in their own filth, eating foul food that was thrown into dumpsters. Jack London also tried hop-picking but these people were underpaid for all their work and often couldn't afford the train fare back home (you call Whitechapel home ?) |
