Frog Baby Without a Brain
This baby was born with the birth defect "anencephaly", which causes the head to have a physical resemblance to that of a frog or toad and for there to be little more than the brainstem inside the skull. Most babies with this defect are stillborn or are aborted, but a few are carried to full term. Almost all die within a few days of birth. For those who remember the "Baby K" medical-ethics case of the mid-90s, this is the disorder that Baby K, a grossly deformed infant born to a fundamentalist Christian mother and was kept alive for some time against medical advice, had. |

Re: Frog Baby Without a Brain
I had to save the Imageshack pic to my computer and upload it since it showed the blue box with a question mark inside when I added your code. For information on the "Baby K" case: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_K Thanks! |

Re: Frog Baby Without a Brain
That Baby K case was crazy though... I could go on and on about the ethics and religious aspects of the whole thing, but I'll just boil it down to one statement: That mother was batshit crazy and completely selfish to use all that medical care and equipment for something so futile and pointless as her brainless child when others with an actual chance of survival could have been denied treatment or better treatment due to the baby (who would never survive/know anything/have ANY cognitive response) sucking up valuable resources. INSANE!
