Fractured Vertebrae for Freeride Mountain Biker in Double Backflip from Rock
Spanish professional freeride mountain biker Adolf "Loco" Silva suffered a devastating, life-altering crash during the Red Bull Rampage finals in Virgin, Utah, on October 19, 2025. During his second finals run, Silva attempted a high-risk double backflip off a massive 90-foot step-down drop. He under-rotated the second flip mid-air, missed the landing wheel-first, and was thrown violently headfirst into the hard desert dirt before sliding down the rocky slope. Medics rushed to the scene immediately, and he had to be evacuated from the venue via emergency helicopter. Silva sustained catastrophic thoracic spinal and upper-body injuries being a fractured T2 and T3 vertebrae, with dislocations extending all the way down to T6, a broken sternum and 6 broken ribs. He underwent a five-hour surgery to stabilize his spine with plates and screws but the severe spinal cord injury left him paralyzed with no sensation from the chest down. Doctors expected him to remain hospitalized for at least nine months, but he managed to get discharged in just eight weeks. He has already begun adapting to his new reality under his personal philosophy "Still Loco," trying out wheelchair rugby, driving off-road buggies, and getting back on a modified motocross bike. |

They were like, quick zoom out zoom out! That is a very impressive sport he seemed really skilled and passionate. But it indeed was a big huge whoopsie. Rock on Loco, sorry this happened to you. |

I wonder how many people have wrecked themselves during these Red Bull Extreme events. I know there are quite a few in all kinds of different sports. |

I like how in that second video, the commentator is saying, "Adolf is really determined!" That would go really well over old footage of the other Adolf. You know, the naughty Adolf. |

I kinda don't think these people should labled as athletes. They are idiots. I think even bungee jumpers should bear that title as well. Sports are, well, sports. One team wins, and one team loses. There are plenty of spaces on the Darwin files, where there is plenty of room to make the grade. UFC, for example. That's plenty gnarly. Not a "sport" in the most basest of terms. At least they know what to expect. |
