Re: Forest Cobra Bite

Well in a way, I guess I am. I was involved in venom toxicology research for a long time. Now I am doing more genetics and conservation education. Though I find myself in the lab pulling venom when ever I get the chance. The most important thing in my mind is educating the public about reptiles. There is so much misinformation out there in the media. Even animal planet and NatGeo have given in to ratings pressure to "hype up" fear propaganda. I also work for the department of defense, educating military personnel about envenomation wound care, species identification and general handling. I have worked with several animal control agencies, police and fire departments in the same way.

When I got bit I was actually giving the snake water and was being lax and distracted.

Re: Forest Cobra Bite

Damn, that doesn't look too good...but at least he did it himself so I think it's pretty hard to sue the snake.

Re: Forest Cobra Bite

This is a picture of a Forest Cobra Bite. Cobras are Elapids, unlike Vipers they cary more neurotoxins than hemotoxins. This venom effects the neurological system, working to paralyze the diaphragm causing suffocation.

Having survived a Cobra bite myself, I will say, the effects of the venom are not as simple as it made to sound when discussing it.
