Flesh Eating Bacteria

This is an original, as my co-worker took the photos. His friend was either bitten, or scratched, and ended up with a necrotic arm that will have to be removed.

Was that a jest or did you really think it was great, ,oh hold on 1 star ain't great but how often do you see things like this. A lot of stuff in this section can make people aware to get things seen to sooner. This one single post could possibly save somebody else's life.

Re: Flesh Eating Bacteria

By chance? was compartment syndrome involved?
Some of these look a bit like fasciotomy incisions.

(A fasciotomy is performed on patients with compartment syndrome due to extreme swelling to allow blood to flow through an area so it doesn't die from lack of oxygen. The swelling prevents blood flow and causes necrosis due to lack of blood/oxyen.)

May be how he/she ended up like this, went to hospital too late, performed emergency fasciotomy, wasn't done in time, tissue died.
Infection set in, etc. etc.
Doesn't look like necrotizing fasciitis to me.
(May be the onset of it though. )

Re: Flesh Eating Bacteria

You may be correct... tbh I didn't properly absorb all the medical details while my co-worker was talking about it because of the photo, lol. I know the guy waited too long to go to the hospital, and was unaware of the extent of the dead tissue which only because apparent after they made a few cuts.

Re: Flesh Eating Bacteria

Still looks to my unprofessional eye that the arm might still have a chance?
