Firework Injury
Devastating hand injury following a firework explosion. The blast resulted in splaying of the hand with multiple fractures, neurovascular compromise and soft tissue loss. Firework-related hand injuries pose a significant surgical challenge due to the combination of burn and blast forces that can compromise the function of intact vessels and nerves making salvage and reconstruction particularly difficult.  ·  · |

Fireworks (or home-made explosives) injuries fascinate me thanks to 2 classic videos I saw on DR. 1. the teenager that made his own explosive who was filmed by his friends as he threw it into a lake but it exploded in his hand. 2. the drunk guy at a party that blasted his hand into two separated pieces giving him a split-hand look who continued to drink his beer with his one remaining good hand as his friends scrambled to help him  |
