Almost looks like smallpox....

I remember reading one of those "insane survival" stories in People years back, a woman was parachuting and her main and reserve chutes failed, she smacked the ground right in a huge fire ant mound, and the stings of the fire ants actually kept her body from going into shock until help could arrive.

are those stings or bites or both? (it is my understanding that
bites come from the front of the ant and stings come from the back end of the ant.)
