I see you've had a little free time at home over the holidays. Where's the rest of her?

Made me think the same, guessing this may have been a hysterectomy.
More I think of what this is all connected to/where it came from, the worse it gets.
(My mother had the procedure done a few years ago. She looked like hell for weeks. Lots of pain.)

Yup, this is from 4 years ago and someone found out about the story of this pic.
An image of a uterus circulated on social networks, which left many people impressed. This is because we rarely have the opportunity to see real images of this organ, with such rich details as in the photo above.

In addition to the impressive image, what touched many women was the beautiful text, originally posted on the Facebook page Maternidade Saludable, which detailed the incredible capacity of this organ, and resulted in more than 51,000 shares. The first contact I had with the image, however, was through the Instagram Mulheres Lua , responsible for translating the text:

“ Its normal size is about 7 centimeters long and 5 centimeters thick. This organ expands more than 100 times to house a fetus. Each month it self-destructs and rebuilds itself again, through this process it eliminates menstruation through contractions, which is why menstrual pain is the pain of the uterus, not the ovaries.

It can support up to 150 times its own weight. It is the only organ capable of creating another organ: the Placenta. It's connected to you. If you stress, he stresses, if you relax, he relaxes. In this same organ life is shared. There are women who have given life to 15 children with this organ.

It is able to generate 20 lives. It is a mother's second heart, for it forms the hearts of her children there. ”
Knowing that the original image was posted on Facebook by Peruvian gynecologist and obstetrician Carlos Calderón , better known as Dr. Ego, from Lima, Peru, went after him to try to find out what was the story behind the image that impressed so many people. It didn't take long for the doctor to get back to me. I told him about my interest and he agreed to help me.

The surgery to remove the uterus in question, called a total hysterectomy, was performed in January last year and removed not only the uterus, but also the ovary and fallopian tubes.

The patient in question, whose name was not revealed for medical ethics reasons, was a 64-year-old Peruvian woman. Her uterus had given birth to three children, who are now adults, in addition to having gone through a spontaneous abortion.

Doctor Carlos Calderón was willing to help me talk to this lady. He looked for her chart and talked to the family to see if she would agree to give me an interview. Upon making contact, however, the doctor discovered that the lady is suffering from senile dementia and seizures, being treated by psychiatrists. The family thought it best not to talk.

Anyway, the doctor explained that it was the patient's decision to completely remove the uterus, tubes and ovaries, which were compromised by suspected malignant polyps, ovarian cyst and pre-cancerous endometrial lesion.

“The patient could have opted for a more traditional treatment, but precisely because she has three children, she preferred to remove any traces of the disease that could affect her quality of life with her children”, said the doctor, in an exclusive interview with Mother at 40.

Carlos also said that the surgery was a success, without intercurrences and that, as expected, the patient was discharged two days after the procedure.

This woman probably doesn't know it, but thanks to her womb, many others have been able to reflect on fertility, health, illness and the challenges that motherhood brings us.

It's a "she" organ, not a "he"... SMH.
